Extracurricular clubs are important in developing a well-rounded student. Club participation not only augments and improves achievement in academic classes, but it also offers students an opportunity to build their social, time management, and team-building skills necessary for success in and out of school. Teachers usually serve as club advisors.

Some of the clubs that are offered at Willow Dale include:
Art and Mural Club
Fourth and fifth-grade students who are interested in art and school beautification share their talents and learn from a talented staff. The club meets weekly on projects that enhance the school building.
Drama Club
Students audition to perform in an annual drama performance. This activity builds confidence and improves speaking, listening, and performance skills. This is usually open to students in grades 4 & 5.
Fabulous Females
Open to all fifth-grade girls, the club is designed to assist our young ladies with topics that are of particular interest to pre-adolescents as well as areas that often present as problematic (getting along, gossip, school work, personal care, and hygiene).
Girls Who Code Club
Open to third-grade girls, members work with one another on an Impact Project, where they use computer science to solve a problem relevant to their Club and community. Through this project, girls learn teamwork and leadership, while also learning the fundamental computer science concepts that form the basis for all computer programming languages: loops, variables, conditionals, and functions.
Karate Club
Karate Club provides a great opportunity for children to understand self-defense, focus, and discipline in a safe, fun, active and cooperative environment. Currently, East-West Karate facilitates this free club at Willow Dale offered to students at various grade levels throughout the year.
March Madness Basketball Tournament
Open to students in grades 4 and 5, students form their own teams to compete at the building level. The winning boys and girls team will go on to compete in the district elementary competition.
Obvious Choice Sports
Students in grades K-5 who elect to sign up for this club have an opportunity to learn the fundamental skills and vocabulary of sports, practice those skills, and engage in actual scrimmages/gameplay. This club is facilitated by an outside vendor and there is a fee to join.
Reading Olympics
Here at Willow Dale, Reading Olympics is open to all fourth and fifth-grade students who would like to be part of a team effort to read from a list of 45 books and attend a county-wide competition in April. In order to qualify for a team, your child would agree to read (or listen to) ten books from the Reading Olympics list which can be found on the Centennial Libraries webpage. Several copies of each title are available in the school library and reading room. Teams will begin meeting in January during some of their lunch and recess periods to discuss the books and prepare for the competition. While we use the word “competition” to describe this event, we really consider Reading Olympics to be a “celebration of reading” where students of all abilities are encouraged to challenge themselves as readers and have fun sharing books with fellow readers!
Science Club
Open to students in grade 4, students meet weekly to further their curiosity with science concepts. Those that participate experience hands-on science labs and challenges.
Science Explorers Club
Students in grades K-5 can take part in this year-long series of sessions that offer a variety of STEM activities and topics including Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Coding, Anatomy, and Physiology. Each club topic is 3 or 5 weeks long. This club is facilitated by an outside vendor and there is a fee to join.
